The monstrous miner bot appeared in Calypso following a very quiet period of four years after the colony on Calypso was established. It showed the robots had suddenly become very interested in Calypso's natural minerals and resources. They also seem to be rather unaggressive, and not hard work to kill, as if they concentrate more on mining than anything else.
